is there a chemical that i can get that will get rid of rust?

the only way to get rid of rust it to cut it out. you can neutralize rust to keep it from spreading. stufflike rust inhibitors and even POR-15 neutralize rust. But the only true way to get rid of it is to sand to solid metal or cut it out and replace it

i thought that if you have a car "dipped" to remove paint, that it will also remove the rust as well.

it will aslo remove the car if left in the dip to long. the acid they use to "dip" them can seep out of were panels and crimped over another and ruin good paint jobs. how bad of rust and were u talkin bout?

well the rust i am talking about is about as bad as it gets. i have huge holes all over. i was stupid and bought a car from across the country without looking at it in person. now ive spent a lot of money and am stuck with what ive got. its a 56 ford fairlane, and there is not much available in the way of replacement panals.

basicly what i would use the chemical for is the areas i cant get to like inside the door and stuff. and like where the rust is pitting the metal on the inside of a panal, but its not bad enough to cut it out.

i would por 15 it, it bonds to the metal, rusted or not.

well yeah for that stuff i would go for the POR-15. for stuff on the outside of the car, i would get the pittined stuff medai blasted then use a good sealer on it to keep it from rusting again. Media blasting would be the best way. Dipping a car will cost you a hell of a lot more.

look for soda blasting, wont warp panels.

just got the torino in my profile blasted with soda, afterwords you need to go over it with a scotch brite pad or some paper to get the residue off of the metal then wash the parts off completely with JUST WATER...let dry then spray it wit a 10% mix of white vinigar (the 10%) and distilled water, this will nuetrallize any baking soda left over and any surface rust, then wipe it down with acrilaclean (spelling) or equivalent to remove any oils, grease, etc... then etch primer and i like to at this point put an apoxy primer over everything for further protection, you need to coat everything at first because it will surface rust quickly.... you could alway do the body work later

as for the spots that cant be reached with the blaster id use something like the por15, or mar-hide 1 step

please excuse my babling and poor spelling... i just woke up and im hung over lol

hope i helped some

I use WD40.
Do not do this if you plan to paint it in the next year.
