I just use K36 as a primer, and regular old base clear for the paint. Lasts a long time. The engine in our shop truck has been done 10 years and run 75,XXX miles and still looks fine.

I use VHT paint. Its nice, and its resistant to oil, coolant, whatever. However I've never paint matched an engine, just went by factory colors.

The easiest way is to use a good primer, and to use high heat paint from a spray can..
If you want to paint it base/clear, make sure you wash the engine properly (I like to use Castrol Super Clean), put like 4 coats of primer, 2-3 coats of base, and 3-4 coats of clear.. ..oh yeah and use a good high-heat primer..

I'm with seth, VHT is awesome and they got lots of color choices. I just ran flat black on my 350 and gloss black on the 390 for my dad's car, never done any other crazy colors tho.
