On my 98 Tahoe my rear door speakers arent playing anymore. I know they are factory amped and I think the amp went bad but what are my options for geting them to work? Can I bypass the amp and have the speakers run off the head unit? Or should I get a small amp to run them? Thanks alot.

well if the amp is bad you can run an aftermarket head upnit and bypass or you can amplify it but regardless you will have to rewire it to bypass the factory amp

honestly i been installing cae stereo for 20 years and to have a pre-2000 chevy truck or suv with a factory amp is highly unlikely, you may just have 2 blown speakers, think about it if an amp blows you wont have any speakers,gm didnt start putting amps in suv's untill 2000 and it ran the whole stereo

ive got a 93 chevy suburban and it has a factiry amp so yes it could be the amp but more than likely youve got it wired wrong i had to hook my antenna wire coming from the aftermarket head unit to the power wire for the amp if you look at your factory harness its got two plugs one of them has the same color wires as your back speakers plus one extra thats the amp power just hook it up to ant. power coming out of the head unit and it should work

It for sure has a factory amp its only for the rear two door speakers only...

I have the wireing harness wired correctly because they were working and then I noticed they quit working. Dose anyone know were the factory amp is loacated so I can rewire it from there insted of from the headunit?

I've got the same problem with my 2000 malibu. Only the rear speakers dont work. After checking the wiring and it was fine, I just gave up, I never thought about a factory amp. Thanks for posting this, cause I'll see if thats my problem.

hey man your factory amp is above your gas pedal slightly to the right of it...really easy to bypass

so its above the gas pedal to the right a bit...I was told it could either be behind the glovebox or under the drivers seat?

Dose anyone know the location of the Factory Amp? I can not find it and its driving me crazy because every install place that Ive called dosent know shit.

every tahoe that I have worked on that has had an amp has been under the rear seat. Have you taken the speakers out and tested them jsut to make sure they still work?
