with mine, i have a yellow top(for accessories), and a red top(engine)...i do have both of mine in the bed though...im using a 200 amp battery isolator between them....basically u run neg. to neg....then run pos. of main battery to big post of isolator...the other big post on the isolator goes to the pos. of the other batt....then there are 2 small post on the isolator...one goes to the ignition wire, and one is a ground....i think u can run without the isolator, but i would not recommend it....it keeps the batteries separate in a way, but lets them stay at a 12 volt...they wont discharge one another if the other is low (they are isolated)..maybe that will help
