Has anyone used a Scroll Type A/C compressor rather than a pistion style? Or does anyone know how reliable they would be as far as oiling issues. They basic design seems like it would elimante the oiling issues with many other compressors

by scroll type do you mean a sanden? if so, yeah, ppl use em, they just dont pump as much air as a york.

no not the sanden type. rather than pistons like a york, sanden, etc, it uses two 'scroll' shaped pieces. one rotates while the other remains stationary. From the quick research I have done, they have only been used in the automotive industry since roughly 2000 (but i could be wrong). they look pretty much like a sanden, just different internals. I am yet to think of a reason why it would need constant lubrication like a piston style.
