no not the sanden type. rather than pistons like a york, sanden, etc, it uses two 'scroll' shaped pieces. one rotates while the other remains stationary. From the quick research I have done, they have only been used in the automotive industry since roughly 2000 (but i could be wrong). they look pretty much like a sanden, just different internals. I am yet to think of a reason why it would need constant lubrication like a piston style.
