hey guys, i have a 95 isuzu pickup...im totally redoing the interior and i need to get the shifter to unscrew off of the post. im not talking about the actually shift knob, but the actually shift "shaft" haha. i can get it to turn about 1/10 of the way around, but there is a lot of tension on it...snd believe me, i am really pushing! am i missing something to take it off?

I assume your truck is a manual transmission?? If so, it should be real easy to take off. take the rubber boot off of the shifter, or just pull it off the floor and out of the way. There should be a few bolts, can't remember if there are two or four that bolt the plate into the tranny. pull those bolts out and the shifter assembly should pop right off.

hmmm....yea my truck is a 5-speed...sorry about not saying that earlier...so the only way the shifter comes off is to actually take it out of the transmission?

Yeah when you look at the shifter you should see a small diameter shaft coming out of the tranny then into that large diameter shifter that your shift knob screws onto. The connection between the smaller shaft and that larger one is just rubber cement, it does not unscrew. If you take a large pipe wrench to it you can rip it off and end up with a short shifter but i dont know if thats what your trying to do

heres mine without that shift extension on it anymore, its about 5" from top to the actual tranny.

what about for auto shifter?

remove the boot, and there are 4 bolts that hold a plate and sprint ontop to the tranny, once those are removed, the shaft pulls right out.
