i finally drove my truck to work today... farthest ive driven in awhile since its not my daily anymore.. but my problem is. this afternoon when i was driving home on the freeway. it started out fine but the temperature kept rising. its a 22re and ive replaced the fan with an electric fan. and it had plenty of water/coolant. it was 105 outside when i was driving home. do i need to add a second fan? what does everyone else use. the whole trip is maybe 13 miles if that.

thermostat could be stuck from sitting

you can also flush out the radiator & see if that helps. not sure if you have any leaks or not, but check all your hoses & while the truck is running look at the water pump & see if any fluid is leaking from it as well.

If all checks good, have a shop stick a smog sniffer in the filler neck, shows if head gasket is leaking! 22re's sometimes have a head gasket issue!!

if it was fine before, and now its gettin hot, id check the tstat. here is a nother thing, when it starts to get hot, pull over, and shut it off, quickly get out and open the hood, place your hand on the radiator core, like around and in between the fan. the entire radiator should be hot. if there is cool or cold spots, your radiator is plugged in those areas, and water is not flowing through. vehicles that sit are the worste things you could eve do to a car. they sit and grow things inside them. thats why the car from the little old lady that is a 1970 with 3000 miles is usually bad, it never got driven eneough.

let us know how you do..

also if you eliminated your fan shroud you are now not cooling the whole radiator just the spot the fan is on I had this problem you need a fan shroud so the fan pulls air across the whole radiator.

Check the thermostat first thats probably the problem. Replace it even if it looks good. Next would be your radiator to see if its plugged. You can take it to a radiator shop and get it rodded out.

make sure fan is pulling and not pushing. most fans go both ways by switching the wires . i have stock fan with no shroud and it cools fine.
