notches

I was just wandering what you guys use to make your notches? I generally use a 2x3 or 2x4 for half tons but want to go beefy on thr dually. I mocked it up with some 3x5 but it looks way to damn big. Any suggestions?

i used 2x4 1/4" wall on mine and a few others i have done and havent had anyproblem outta them... plenty beefy for towing.

That is how mine is built. Been that way for about 4 years now with now problems.

how tall are you guys making them

i think off the top of my hungover head the 1/2tons are 10" to the bottom(from the bottom frame rail to the bottomside of the notch....makeing the top of the notch 12 inches) and thats enought ot lay out on 20s with a meaty tire but will hit with a 22 and a 35 seies tire..... on my dually i think i made it 12 " to th ebottom side but cant remem exactly, ill measure tonight when i make it down to the shop.
