OK so I'm on my second rebuild with the motor that is intended to go in my cutlass because the machine shop i took it to two years ago royally fucked my shit up (luckily i never fired it or it would have failed catastrophically). Currently the engine is at their shop because they "dont believe they fucked up that bad". I put 4100 dollars into my motor at their shop and got back a piece of shit that would have failed and it also has the wrong pistons in it (i paid them to have custom pistons made so that it would have 10.5:1 compression and after going through the steps to figure it out i am positive it is 9.5:1). I can prove (i now work at a highly reputable racing engine shop) that they fucked my shit up and was wondering if anyone has any advice as to how i can hold them accountable (they already told me they wont fix it and that i have to pay to have it fixed which means buying 900 dollar custom pistons again). My boss is telling me that more than likely i'll loss my ass in fees and whatnot trying to sue them. So has anyone ever taken a shop to court and won? And if so how did you go about doing so? I was told my best bet is small claims court. Anyone got any good advice for me?

Man i'm sorry to hear about your luck. My boss is going through the same situation here in San Antonio. Basically he put about 6 grand into his 454 SS and the motor turned out to be a piece of shit that went bad as soon as he fired it up. He talked with the shop that built it and they said they weren't at fault, making up stories like he ran it without oil, but what engine shop doesn't put oil in their motors?? So he threatened to take them to small claims court and that's when they agreed to check out the motor. It turns out they did mess up and now they are fixing it for free. He needed a new block and everything! It's not what's happening to you but maybe if you have a lawyer make a call or write up a letter, they might take you seriously. But I also heard that even if you win in small claims, all it is is an order to pay, but they don't have to, or something to that effect. I guess you can't squeeze water from a rock. I hope your luck changes, brother. Your boss is right though, it is going to cost a lot of money to sue.
