Diesel Engine

I got two questions... First off what would it cost for a turbo diesel engine out of like a 2003 and up chevy dually with relatively low mileage like 50,000 -60,000 and also would it fit in a old body style like mine with the body drop?

anythign can fit, but you have to ask yourself is it worth the time and headache since you ahve to rewire alot of the gauages and such to mix and match, plus you need a newer trans to go with the motor, ecm and all the compiuters plus converting the gas tank if you ahe to( not sure you do, but never know)
cost wise you talking probably trans and motor maybe no more then 10 g's or so maybe high but rather get worse case scenerio and be wrong and have it be lower you know

Yes, you would need the whole package for the transplant and it would be time consuming and cost a pretty penny. I have seen rollover trucks go for about 10k and that should give you everything you need and you could part out the rest to try to get some $$ back. I think you could build a nice bigblock and spend the extra $$ on fuel and be ahead!

The physical swap is fairly stright forward. The Duramax bolts in to the same spot as a big block chevy. The bolt pattern is the same as any other chevy, so you could use a TH400 if you really wanted to. The allison would be cool though. I've seen it done a couple times and the biggest obstical is the wiring. The ones I've seen have spent a BUNCH of hours on the wiring. There isn't even a throttle cable, so you would have to convert the engine or get the donor truck's gas pedal setup. There's a video here of a guy with an older chevy and a Duramax...

last motor we got out of a junkyard was about 6500... only had 30k miles but didnt come with a trans/harness/ or computer.



if your gonna go to the trouble of doing it, i would go ahead and swap the new trans over also and then wouldnt be that big a deal with the wireing.... and it would be helluva lot easier if you had a complete donor truck to take everything off of and basically update your whole truck(cluster and such)

but then you are to the point of is it worth the time/money/ hassel to do it or just sell yours and then buy a in decent shape newer truck and do the bags/bodydrop and everything to that?

appreciate all the info..... ne time i gotta question on here everyone sure has good input.... definetly better than some other websites out there... the whole diesel thing was something i was considering cause i did see a donor truck at a local scrap yard.... it was a roll over and someone already took the bed and the cab is off.... truck looks pretty kool sittin there with just the motor and trans on a frame with the stock wheels.... looks like someone is just gettin ready to bodydrop it.... last time i past by though it was inside the "shop" more like scrap down building.... so i dont know if somone has bought it already..... thanks for the great info again...

Im planning on doing a diesel swap myself later on. Im gonna run the older, around 94', Cummins 16 valve motor. Its all manual so the swap should be pretty strait forward. The injector pump and all is mechanical, not electronic.

You mean 12 valve? (one intake and exhaust valve per cylinder)
