I just got the poor old 2.2 out of an 88 B2200 and was wondering what wires I could remove to clean things up a bit?

Haven't decided on a motor yet, but it will be something other than the stock, so all of the emissions aren't a concern. I just don't know where to cut the harnesses or anything.

you dont have to cut anything. THe entire harness coming through the passenger side firewall is for the factory carb (except a couple wiper motor wires, but those are easy to seperate out) and can be unplugged and pulled through. THe harness on the drivers side (it goes across the rad support and to the battery and underhood fuseboxes) is part of the body harness and is needed.

so I just have to cut the wrapping tape and sort out all the wires?
that sounds a lot easier than trying to cut and hoping its not a needed wire

so does the wire bundle go to the comuter thing in the passenger kickpanel?

yes, to the computer, and the only thing hooked to that computer is the factory carb, carb vacuum solenoids and the O2 sensor.

The only place you have to split the harness is right by the plug in the firewall, the wiper wiring is right there. Everything else unplugs from the engine and the underhood fusebox.

sorry for being a pain here Russ, but I can essentially remove the whole computer, and all the attached wiring and not have any problems running a different motor without that computer?

I just want to be 100% before cutting, you understand

yep, the only reason for that computer is the carb, not even the motor. lots of guys (including me) have installed weber carbs on the stock motor and ditched that computer and wiring.
