the rearend on my truck started howling last night. has anyone had this problem before? it is mainly when I let off the gas.

Me is a poor bastard, I will probably be stuck rolling on my 16" with simulaters forever.

Seriously though how many miles is on your truck. It sounds like your gears are going. My brothers 1/2 ton started doing that, we replaced the gears and bearings. I don't remeber what the actual problem was. He just ordered everything and them called me to help put it in.

every chevy i have owned has had a howling rear end, i have rebuilt my last one but it was expensive ! cjeck ur pinion seal
my remedy is change the fluid, and buy loud exhaust and loud stereo that seems to work for me

if it just started what you need to do is jack up your truck and look between the dualls.

some time little rodents or cats get stuck in there and they start to scream because they want out

sounds like the pinion bearing is going, check it out and if you caught it soon enough you may be able to save the gears

I've had this problem on a few small trucks, Also could be a u joint....

Pinion bearing was going to be my guess...Carrier bearing also does some howling when they start to go out...I would pull the cover off the rearend and give it a good look over before I did anything.

ow yea, I saw a truck that was 2 linked and the drive shaft pushed into the rear of the tranny 2 hard and messed it up, made some good noises also. GO 2 LINKS!, LOL
