I'm thinking of putting dual exhaust on my 02 chevy silverado 1500. It has the 5.3 V8 in it, and i was wondering if i put headers on it and ran a true dual exhaust set up will it mess with the computer? I have heard that it might because the trucks computer is adjusted to a Y pipe set up. so its basically used to running like this. (motor)==----(tailpipe) So if i free up all that back pressure will the computer go crazy and not understand? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I will be doing the same thing eventually. I don't know much about exhaust but I wouldn't think it would mess up computer. As long as the 02sensors were still on there But like I said, i don't know. Just a guess.

i have jba headers with borla exhaust on my 4.8 and i didnt mess with the cats because my truck has four 02' one before and ater the cats and you do need some backpressure for daily driven horsepower,to mee i dont see the advantages of true duel exhaust with thhe knewer trucks out today

Do you mean you have four 02 sensors or four cats on your exhaust? cuz if i remember right i thought i only had two 02 sensors im not entirely sure on that but the last time i changed my oil i thought i only saw two idk i could be wrong.

And lets say i didnt go with true dual but the Y set up, could i still have it exit in front of the rear tires but at an angle?

i have 2 cats 4 o2's one before and after each cat (the 5.3 may be differnt?) you can only go out before the passenger side because of your gas take on the left

you could run true duals but there isnt really a good reason why unless your running serrious motor. I have a 98 tahoe with a 350 and ture dual flowmaster 40serries, no cats casper electronic 02sims and a magnaflow corvette X pipe. Only reason I went with this is because my stock exhaust was pretty much set up for it. it was a dual in singal out no y or any cross so I did it to be diffrent and got a deal on the parts and had it done for free. but its not best for daily driving (really loud, draws alot of attention from the 5.0) If it were me I would run single in dual out muffler plain and simple.
