i dont know how to describe it but ill try my best. ok i have a carbureted 22r, i have an annoying tick in the engine, a friend of mine says it sounds like a lifter is messed up but i dont really know much about engines to say that its the problem.....need help.

There arent lifters in the 22r motors. The cam is in the head and has rocker arms to open the valves. Check to make sure your valves are adjusted properly.

^^^^ exactly

do you think it could be the rocker arm making that noise? and if you think it is, is it a easy change or will i have to have someone else to do it?

Another thing to check is the timing chain- every 22r I've seen with over 100k miles had timing chain noise as the guides wore down- some wore to the point of wearing through the actual timing cover! It can sound a little different from what you're describing, but it's still something to check out. Good luck!

You dont need one to take the rocker arms off.

Usually the rocker arms dont go bad unless they have a crazy amount of miles on them. The valve springs will wear a little bit causing the valves to be out of adjustment.

Pick up a haynes manual and figure out how to adjust the valves. Its not that hard.

I say first adjust your valves its easy. Just make sure you do it with the engine hot not cold. It has to be hot not warm. But I say if you have over a 100k on it and never put a chain on it better do that to. Not that bad of a job either Rember the both in the head that goes down makes a mess if you just pry it off with out taking that bolt out
