my yota is having some problems = (

Just this weekend it started acting wierd while i was driving it down the highway.I was goin about 65mph and all the sudden it felt like it just lost power and then it kicked back in again. There were no places to pull over so i drove it untill i could. It kept doing this, losing power, stuttering, deal the whole time.

So i figure it may have been the fuel pump or the fuel filter? I changed out the fuel filter and it seemed to run fine for about 8 hours and then it started up again.

I parked it...and the next day it wont turn over when i try and start it.

any ideas guys??

thanks in advance

fuel pump maybe.... it depends on the stutter. remember you have air you know that the only other two things a motor runs on is gas. see if the fuel pump is pumping and see if you have spark.

it wouldnt turn over at all?? i would check all the wiring grounds as well...

ok...so i checked all the wiring/fuses and those things prior to this thread. All seemed fine...

now...would i be wrong in assuming this:
I disconnected the lines from my fuel filter and then turned my key to the on position...no gas comes out of the lines?
would it be safe to assume it is probably the fuel pump??

Your first guess sounds correct. It very well could be your in-tank pump. If i remember my truck correctly, that the pump primes the fuel system when the accesories are switched on. To be sure turn the motor over. If thats not it, sounds like it could also be a wiring problem if it's intermittent like that. As far as specific electric components, I would check the mass airflow sensor first. Your cat might be clogged also.

yeah that's a safe assumption.. could have something covering where it sucks the gas up.

I had the main wire to the fuse box to the battery breaking loose not coming apart completely and it spit and sputtered and finaly broke loose thats when i figured out what it was. I also had the mass airflow sensor go out and the truck would run but had a lot of smoke and ran very rough. All so if the air intake has any leak in it the truck will not hardly run 2.

i checked out everything else...seem fine.

So im looking at a new fuel pump right now...

thanks guys

I had a similar problem with my 2000 taco and it was the mass air flow sensor not sure if the toyota in that yr have one
