Shaving the tailgate of a first gen s10

I am trying to find the best way to shave the giant body line in the tailgate of the first gen s10. I don't want to lose use of my tailgate so I have been trying to find simple affordable options. I was thinking of just buying a tailgate skin and cutting out the section i need but that is a waste of money.The other option I was thinking was to buy a firt gen blazer tailgate and cut out the section I need. I can buy this at a local salvage yard for $40.

Anyone have any better ways of doing this?

i assume you mean the recessed area in the tailgate not the body line itself...all you need is a tailgate skin from sirmichaels and a handle relocater to the inside.

when i had a first gen s-10 i used 18gauge sheet to shave it out. i measured when the recessed area started to roll inward to when in rolled out ward. just tacked it all around. hope this helps.
