Radio turns off when i turn on the lights

I'm trying to fix the girls radio down the street from me in a 99' mirage and when you turn on the lights the radio turns off. What might be causing this.

THE GROUND WIRE IS HOOKED TO THE ILLUMINATION WIRE. TAKE THE BLACK WIRE FROM THE RADIO AND GROUND IT TO A PIECE OF METAL IN THE DASH

i will try that. she got the car with no radio and they were not sure what wire was what so they just guessed.

dont use the black wire let the antenna ground the deck it works great that way but if you must ground it to metal but would have been easier to but the harness kit so you know its done right

use an digital meter, or a test light. unplug the radio and measure the ground wire. if the test light or meter shows 12 volts when the lights are on, its the dimmer or parking light wire. run a ground to metal
