What's up guys. I read the site a lot, but I don't have a dually so I just try to learn some things while I'm here without making useless posts. Anyway, on a 05 chevy 1 ton axle, will a DRW hub fit on a SRW? If so what else should I look out for such as brakes, etc.? If not then would a DRW axle swap be the way to go? Thanks in advance.

You must be the only one.

To convert would depend on how far you wanted to go. There are kits made so you can bolt on the dually wheels. You get the added benefit of more tires but you don't get the heavier axle. I think the brakes are about the same size. I don't know a whole lot about the newer stuff but I think if you just wanted the looks and a little better towing just go with the kit. You can find them in the back of most magazines. If you plan on lowering it alot of guys switch out the hubs for sw hubs anyway to give more turning room. Probably not any help and someone with more knowledge than me(which is about everyone) will chime in.

If you plan on running semi wheels, I would recomend an axle swap.

yes the hubs and drums will fit the one ton single axle as long as its a 14 bolt .
you can leave the backingplate and the rest of the brakestuff on , you end up with a narrower axle like the one out of a c+c

guys i made a mistake about telling you about the trick with the axle to make it a narrow track dually axle .
i got another 14 bolt narrow axle and found out that although the size is the same as the single wheel axle the mounting for the brakeplate isn't .
the site where i got the info from originally had converted his axle too diskbrakes on his rig thats prolly why he didnt noticed it .

the axles hubs everything will fit but if you want to run drumbrakes you have to get out the torch and welder to remount the flange that mounts the brakeplate

I've got both at my shop and its pretty much the same. (different by 1/2")
I have 3 of them dayum axles
1, my stock 98 one
2, SRW 14 bolt
3. cab/chassis 14 bolt

2,3 are withen 1/2" of each other and the main difference is the hub and brake back plate like watahyautknow says. If I were to build another rear i'd just grind off the welds for the backing plate, and put the dually hubs on the SRW axle and be done with it. Also might as well do the disk brake conversion at the same time, brackets are like 110 bucks, and u can get callipers and and roters for 250-400 and it will lighten up the rear a good amount.

Also make sure u got a 14 bolt, i hear some have dana rears but as of right now its still a rumor.

I will have my stock 98 dually axle available in the next few weeks.
