when your running a cheap amp you have to run them with the gain nearly at zero to not get a distorted signal. you can blow subs by sending them distorted signals under the rated power. its all in how clean the output is.

dont cheapout on your amp. Cheap amp's put out distortion for the most part at any volume. So please spend $350 - $500 on an amp. If you buy a good amp you'll still have a good amp 5 - 10 years from now. If you buy trash thats were it will end up. It's wearth wating to get something good and you'll be happy with what you with you're system. Not pissed that you have 2 blown subs and a peace of shit amp!

The "Dirty" Truth About Distortion
Contrary to popular belief, distortion does not cause speaker damage. Distortion is merely the audible detection of signal "clipping". Clipping is when an audio component can no longer provide enough power supply voltage to "cleanly" amplify the audio signal. Clipping can occur at any point in the signal chain (souce unit, signal processor, amplifier, etc.) The popular belief is that if an amplifier "clips" it will send D.C. current to the speaker's voice coil and "burn" it. THIS IS NOT TRUE. It would surprise you to realize nearly every car audio system's amplifier "clips" when listening to music at moderate -to- loud levels. Electrically overpowering a speaker is caused by continually playing the audio system loud, resulting in applying more power to the speaker than it's "rated" specifications. This is what causes speaker voice coils to "burn".

However, for "sound quality" reasons it is important to match the source unit, signal processor and amplifier gain settings to optimize levels and minimize noise floor (system hiss.)

Do not go cheap on your amp man. "You get what you pay for" theory works best with situation. Suck it up, and keep on saving for something that you know you only have to buy once. In other words, dont buy a crunch amp.... just my .02

get high end amps some times your best bet is get the amp to match your subs.example: i have two rockford fosgate power hx2 (2000 watt 2ohm dvc)so i got two rockford 1000.1 bd( 1000 x 1 @ 2 0hms) but also keep in mind true watts some high end amps can do more than rated 1 bd benched 1750 watts

both of those subs are 1000 watts, so combine them for 2000, 1600 watt max amp will be fine on those subs :sawzawl:
