how come the stock rear end cannot handle that much power, but a Toyota rear end is that much tougher?I'm asking because I'm putting a 302 in, and was recommended to use the Toyota

Toyota parts just seem to last for a long ass time. Plus, you can buy new axles and thrid members for Toyota axles. Also, if you really want, you can buy some beefy ass axle housings too.

one more question

what are the different sizes among the years of Toyota axles?
and is there any real strength differences or just width differences?

Year to year won't differ in strength. I know the 79-83 is 55" wide. I think 84-88 is "57, and 89-95 is 58" but I could be off on the two newer style trucks. I only know mine for sure.
