does the motor get up to running temp? i had this problem with my toyota a year back, i thought my gauge was broken but turns out when i started driving the truck the new thermostate we put in it was stuck open so the truck never got hot enough to make the heater work. or maybe your heater core went bad...although it typically isnt that cause those things are damn near indistructable.

if the blower works and it's blowing cold, then it's your temperature selector on the dash. take a peek behing that and see if there's anything funny going on. if your heater core was bad, you'll definately know, so it's not that. another thing is that if you're not running a thermostat in your cooling system, your heater isn't going to be as hot, but it'll be warm.

I'll check the T Stat this weekend and pull the dash apart and check the knobs and things out! thanks guys!!

how would you know if the heater core is broken? would it be spilling out sh*t... and my temp gauge works but it never get past half way.. sometimes not even half way if its cold out.. also i dont know if i have a thermostat or not.. but i havent had warm or hot air come out for the longest time.. my vent/defroster switch in the dash was also broken so i just switched it to defroster by hand and its still cold. would a mazda shop be able to figure it out?

you would smell anit-freeze inside the cab if the heater core was broken, and check your heater hoses in the eng. compartment, did you by-pass them and for get abuot it ? and make sure the lines arent clogged

there is a cable selector that moves the damper from cooling to heating you can reach it from the lower center section of the dash check and see if the cable is actualy moving the flap.

Kev if your temp never goes past half thats a good thing really. it doesn't have to warm up much for the heater to blow warm, alittle above the first line and you should start to feel it. I have had the same problem so any questions just ask

Well and update from my earlier post:

I took my center dash bezel off and found that the cable selector was buster and teh knob wasn't moving the cable. so I moved it by hand and I have heat but not great!!

It takes it a long time to blow warm air and even at that it fades in and out from warm to cool!! I have also noticed the temp gauge is reading a little hotter than usual.....

I also guess I need to get a new heater core cause I can smell a lil anti freeze scent coming from the vents, definitly not that new car smell...How much of a pain is it going to be to change the core??? I figure I'm going to have to pull the dash any-way to change the temp cable..

if the heater core is broken, there will be coolant in the truck when it leaks out of the box under the dash....

You should have a thermostat. It sould be where the upper radiator hose connects into a neck, thats if its the 2.2L engine, lower radiator hose if its the 2.6L engine. That neck is then bolted down basically to the engine. Go to your local autoparts store and pick up the 195 degree thermostat which is the factory temp, and the gasket. That should do the trick. If it doesnt try draining out your antifreeze and filling it up with new one. Your third choice would probably be your temo. switch.

Hope this helps you out.
