ok, the chrome grille on the dakota is starting to look a bit pitted and rough, so i am thinking of painting it body color. can i just scuff it, prime it and paint it? or do i have to strip all the chrome finish off first?

i would think you would have to strip it or the paint would flake off along with the chrome... just my

i'd say you could probably buy a red painted grill on ebay and save yourself some time and money. Or buy one thats primed and ready to be painted then sell your chrome on there to get your money back. I tried to paint a set of ranger centercaps once and nothing i used would rough the chrome up enough for paint to stick. Ended up being a pain in the ass

It is plastic chromed so it will sand off easy, sand it good with 220 to get ride of that chrome, then prime it, 400 and base and clear that bad boy...or get it re plasticchromed.
