How do I tell if the computer needs to be fixed or rebuilt? What am I looking for on the circuit board? I could get pictures of things if somebody would like to take a look and see if they could see anything wrong with it. Thanks

b2600i computers are JUNK! They have flawed capacitors which end up leaking their guts onto the main board which eat the circuitry up. Depending upon which capacitors leak, and where they happen to leak onto- you get a variety of fun to diagnose symtoms including all kinds of random shit. Basically the truck might run- poorly- if you can even tell with a 2600i motor- or it may not run at all. There are several companies which "Reman" the computers in these trucks- this is about the only way to go- a used computer is just another flawed computer- There are alot of companies on ebay now- also check just a google search- trust me you will find the rebuilders- they know these computers suck. Be prepared to spend 200-300 dollars. Might as well get a headgasket and new head while your at it.

yes I hate b2600i motors- they aren't mazda motors, that's why they suck

Well mine is rolling strong and i have nothing bad to say about it

I've rebuilt them, probally do one for 100 or so. take them appart and look at the big black cap in there. 9 out of 10 times it will have leaked onto the board. As long as the board itself isn't messed up 2 bad, it is fixable.

sorry guys, I don't mean to be mean about the b2600i engines, I'm not a hateful ignorant person most of the time. I just have has some dealings with the 2600i engines- and they have all been bad experiences. It just frustrates me when I see someone having the same problems that I have had with the 2600i motors, because it brings up old frustration with me about these motors, and it's just hard to say anything helpful about them because it seems like they have sooo many problems. When I got my fist b2600i- I thought alright- mazda 2.6 liters and fuel injection- this baby ought to be quick and powerful. It is a little wuicker- but man so many problems, and no room for improvement- not much aftermarket equipment and hardly any interchangability.

Ok Ill pull it apart tomorow and check out the circuit board. Most of the time since I got it, it has ran beautifully. But sometimes when you try to rev it up it will spit and sputter and try to die or other times it will rev fine and when you let off the gas it sounds like its going to die out and goes down to about 500 rpm and then comes back up to normal idle. Does this sound like a computer related problem or something else? Thanks for good info by the way

fuel filter, and the pickup screen in the tank. Make sure both are clean. But especially the fuel filter.

And a word of warning: DONT EVER let that truck run hot. The heads have a defect, Mazda knew about it, didnt recall it, and wont pay for it. They will, however, sell you a brand new (redesigned) head for 900 dollars. I have owned three 2600i's, I bought two with cracked heads and one crack while I owned it. Salvage yard and used heads just havent cracked yet, the only real solution is a new head.

Well apparently the previous owners removed the fuel filter for some strange reason so I have to go pick one up. They also told me they dropped the tank and cleaned it out but Im doubting that they did, so Ill check that pickup screen in the tank. Thanks for the info on keeping an eye on the temp. Whats the defect with the head other than it cracks?

no thats the defect, the coolant passage cracks when you run it hot.

If your fuel filter has been removed, you should have the injectors cleaned professionally.
