I have a 2002 yukon xl 4wd that has like 110000 miles on it. It is only 1/2ton. The tranny I think is starting to go and would like to do a swap to a 6.0 while I am at it. I need more power for towing as my camper is too big for the 5.3. It tows it fine but in the hills it overheats and struggles. I don't know what tranny it has in it right now, anyone know the codes for the different ones? DO they still use the 4l60 and 4l80 in those? What would I need to do to switch motors? ECM, wiring harness, motor mounts? Any big mods to do to get it to fit?

No clue about the swap. We were going to put a 6.0 in my dually but it was going to be too much damn wiring and we shot that idea down.

my friend has a 2006 chevy crew cab short bed that he swapped from a 5.3 to a 6.0 3 weeks after he rolled it off the lot. im pretty sure he said everything was plug and play....he retuned the computer, put a trailblazer ss converter on the tranny, hyper tech chip, intake and a flowmaster. gotta say for a crew cab with a 6.0 it runs

I know a guy that did a 2002 gmc 1/2 ton with the 4.8 and converted it to a 6.0. he said that everything bolted up, plugged in, and worked fine. he just had to have the computer programed to work with the 6.0. he said that the 4.8, 5.3, and the 6.0 are all set up the same. Kind of like the old small blocks everything is interchangeable.
