One of my buddies told me he replaced his torsion bar keys on his 99 tahoe to lift it. He only did a inch and he said he could get me the keys real cheap. So I decided to try it. He said just jack the truck up and take a couple of bolts out and the tension would come off the bars. Well BULLSHIT. Took me forever to get the old keys out then couldnt get the new ones up to get the keeper back in. I found out there is a special C clamp that is 100 bucks that is made to do this. Does anybody else know any way to get tension back on the bars and get this done cheaper than having to buy that damn tool? Anybody else done this and can I do 3in comfortably?

IM going to stick to lowering for now on!!

Need Help!!! Truck is down

We just did a 3" body lift, torsion keys and a rear block on a truck at the shop. We needed the tool.
You can make a home made one with an old u bolt, but its tough to explain. It usually works but this truck shattered it, so my buddy borrowed one from the dealership he used to work at and used that.
Your best option might be to find somwhere that has a loan-a-tool program or something if you dont want to buy the tool.

so the tool is gonna work the best of course, but you can pull the bolt out of the torsion key, and the keeper. Then have a buddy with a breaker bar pull down the lower control arms, and while the tensions off, pull the keeper. It's not easy, but it's cheap. not to mention safty!!!

I just lowered one last night. We used a pointed body hammer and a jack to put the tension back on the key. just be careful because it can slip and pop out real easy. I'm sure you can use something other than a body hammer but it worked pretty good.

you Could try using a C clamp. Now the 3 inches good luck if you wanna keep your ride and alignment. the most would be 2 inches and maybe have to change your shocks

so you got a torsion key lift for the front and just did blocks in the rear for the two inches?
