99 Sonoma with the 4.3 V6. Truck started sputterin really bad...so i took it to my mech and he said that 2 of my cylinders were misfiring and i needed a good tune up. so we replaced my wires, cap,and plugs. It ran like a champ for around 4 days. Then, it started doin it again and we figured it was water in the gas tank...so i threw some iso heat in and it quit.Well, just now, i layd my truck out and it started doin it again...i reved it up and it shut off. the fuel pump was still cycling, so i know it didnt cut off. Is there something im lissing? Could a clogged cat be causing it to sputter like that. Or could it be something with the fuel injection itself?

NEED HELP FAST... ANYONE WITH IDEAS HELP!

If the cat is clogged it would smell like rotten eggs. I would try replacing the fuel filter, cause its cheap and it probably needs a new one anyway.

Just because you can hear the fuel pump whine does not mean it is working. My '97 s-10 broke down 8.6 miles after I bought it, on a rainy night 60 miles from home on the side of the interstate. It was the fuel pump, even though it still whined. As for your problem, it could be one of many sensors. I had the same problem for a year. Good luck. After flushing $4,000 down the drain trying to get it fixed, I ate my loss and sold the worthless pile of shit to CarMax for $1,200. I now happily drive a Nissan hardbody.

the way i cat would be clogged is if the honeycomb inside of it broke, bang on the bottom of the cat with yuor fist and if you hear anything rattle, then your cat is bad

not necessarily. the rotten egg smell is caused by sulfur in the gas, not weather or not if its good. sulfur will cause it to clog tho. if the engine is running rich, it can melt down the cat causing cloggage. it will idle ok, but have serious power loss. you would probably not be able to get passed 35mph also, depending on how blocked it is.

Well... i just went out n started my truck and it started, but it kept sputterin like it was before i got the tune up. It also smelled like raw fuel runnin though the system comin out the exhaust. Could the O2 censor cause it to do all of this? or could it be the MAF? IS there anything with the fuel injection that could be causing this as well???
