Ok, i bought my 1992 B2600i from a hawaiian guy, looked about 30yrs old... he probably knew what he was doing around trucks. he had this truck in tip top shape. it has new injectors, plugs, wires, paintjob, interior is like new, he had a dash mat in, bedliner, rollpan, chrome handles everywhere... its like new.

he told me that he had to sell because it had a blown head gasket, that he had the truck hot, and it kept overheating on him.

i went to a few shops today, and they all said to check the oil. if its milky its blown. i already knew that but it reminded me to check it.

i got home, checked it... its BLACK. its like extremely dark, but, its not milky. i looked under the oil filler cap, had a little bit of milky stuff, but that was it. only a little. looked inside the valve cover, same thing. little bit, but more black then anything. it wasn't a really milky color a little more then the regular oil color, but not noticeable to the untrained eye.

i started reading the other posts and i'm thinking its not the headgasket, but more along the lines of the thermostat, maybe the radiator.

its got me puzzled...

anyone got any hints, tips, or tricks?

any help is GREATLY appreciated.

B2600i + overheated = you're screwed!

I hope you didnt pay much for the truck because the 2600i engines are junk, the heads have a defect that cracks and you either get coolant in the xhaust or coolant in the oil or BOTH. With black oil it sounds like you have the uber rare exhaust in the oil.

Salvage yard parts are just heads that havent cracked yet, the ONLY fix is to buy a new bare head from the dealer (900 bucks) that has the defect corrected, and have that head rebuilt.

Kevin is right, overheat it once and its gone.

in that case... i only paid 400, well technically, 250...

i was hoping maybe that it could be the thermostat, radiator, or the clutch fan.

the oil looks like it should just be changed... i may be wrong though...

damn i hope this is an easy fix... i work at a shitty company that pays only 8.15 so i hope that i can fix this relatively cheap...

If the engine overheats the oil color is the least of your problems.

you can have a cracked head/blown head gasket that does not leak coolant in the oil. My 2600i that broke on me while I was driving just cracked between the coolant passage and the exhaust passage, pressurised the exhaust and overheated in like 5 minutes from stone cold.

well i looked at it again today...

tried starting it up, it turns over, just about starts, but then... it loses compression...

so i know its the head gasket or head. hopefully its not cracked.

he said the head is rebuilt, has a new thermostat, and a new radiator. said that this is the 2nd time it overheated. it bursted the bypass valve or something. idk... hopefully its not cracked or whatever...

if the head is cracked, dont rebuild or buy a used head or you will have this problem again and again.

Find your local Mazda dealer

update...

i got the truck into the shop. it was pressure tested and then they did a valve job, changed the cap and rotor, plugs... basically rebuilt the head...

he said the reason it keeps over heating... is because the fan clutch is OUT...

so i think i'm gonna put an electric fan in it...
