My 69 521 has a j13 too, and im planning a swap. There are a few ways to go here.

Option 1: The most basic and easiest would be a L16 out of a later datsun pickup. It would be a basically bolt in swap, with the exception of the motor mounts. Its about a 30% hp increase going from 67 to 97. With this swap you can also goto a 5 speed with a 240 dogleg tranny.

Option 2: A KA24de out of a later 240. This is the swap im probably going to end up doing. Its a huge HP increase, but will take a good amount of moifications to the firewall, motor mounts and trans mounts. Plus this is a FI motor so you going to have some fun with wiring. Im going to buy a whole 240 just so im sure i have everything i need to do the swap.

Option 3: 13B out of an rx7. This swap is fairly common because the 13b is so small. When your working in such a tight space it help tremendously. Here again though comes all the fab work, motor mounts, transmounts, firewall mods. And again also a FI motor so your going to need a complete engine harness and ECU.

Theres also on more big thing that your forgetting about. The rear end gearing. Stock your truck has a 4.88 gear, which is really high, and drops your top end. Just adding a 5 speed tranny will not gain much more top end for good highway cruising. You need to find someone to change your ring and pinion gears to drop that ratio. You might want to be looking for a donor axle out of an L series 521. Its the same axle as the 520, but different gears (4.10 i believe).

There are more swaps out there, but these are some of the most common. Good luck!

yea pretty much what he said. if you go the fuel injected route, find a totalled late model hardbody and take everything out of it,. motor/trans/wiring harness/ computer ect. put it into yours.

If you decide to go the KA24 route, your going to want is out of a 240, or and least a 240 intake manifold. Its already very tight, and too keep a stock hood your going to need the 240 manifold.

im trying to find something that i can readily get parts for..lol thanks for all teh info..if i went the route with a FI ka motor..id have to go SR20det on it..lol but i dont want to destroy my firewall is key.. if i could find a good higher compression rebuild kit or even forged pistons and rods id go boost on the j13..lol

SR20det is more trouble than its worth. It puts the turbo right where the steering column is, it will take a lot of work to remake all the tubing. Boost the j13, wow thats a joke. If you turboed it, you might make a whooping 95-100hp right before it blows to pieces!!!!!!!!

Sounds to me like the only option you have is to swap to a L16, which is good because it is also the easiest. Like i stated before you can even run a 5 speed tranny like you wanted, but you will still need to change the rear end gearing. There are plenty of upgrades and rebuild kits around for the L16. Build yourself a nice bottom end, and throw a couble side draft webers on it and you will have plenty of power.

What about a CA18ET from a 85 200sx?

CA18DET you mean?????????? that would be a better option, because it is a little smaller and much lighter. But it still places the turbo right where the steering column is. It can be done, but its going to take alot of re-routing of the turbo piping. And it will take firewall modifications.

To me it really sounds like your looking for simplicity with your swap. Like i stated before there is absolutely no reason your shouldnt go with the L16 if your looking for an easy swap. Good parts availability, plenty of power, and basically a bolting, with no firewall mods. If you only want 2 days downtime, this will be your only option.

Yea i feel you,but i can get wa whole 200sx that was hit in the rear for $500 and a Top mount turbo manifold for a couple hundred and ill redo all my charge piping to a front mount..i just want something that will impress me in all senses..lol going back to minitrucks from a 400hp daily driven civic is gonna be fun but i still want the power there just in case..and airedout thanks so much for your help and iput usually everyone else has to be a dick and never give anyhting but an attitude thanks bro
