I've recently finished puting the engine back into the S-10, and was able to get it started today after 15 months of doing other stuff. Anyways it runs, but it seems like there is no oil getting to the top of the engine. Clicks like crazy. I tried to prime the pump a few times then hooked the spark back up, and it still seems like no oil is getting to the top. Could the pump have gone bad while the engine sat for more than a year? It had oil in the block while it sat. Just wondering if anyone knows if there might be anything else besides the pump. I do not have an oil pressure gauge on the truck, so I cant check it very easily. Any help??

sitting wont do anything to the pump.
take one of your valve covers off,and then start the motor, oil should be seen pumping out of the rockers. depending on how long youve run you rmotor for, your lifters might not have "pumped" up yet. it shouldnt take very long, but sounds like you have a noisey lifter or two, but definitly find out if your pumping oil. you can buy a cheapo 10 buck oil presure gauge from any of the auto parts stores and see if it has pressure, but the pump will not go bad form sitting. i would changed your oil, if its been the same oil for 15 months... that just might be your biggest problem

All new oil. The engine ran fantastic when it was parked, so this is why I am sort of stumped. I ran the engine probably about 4-5 times today, but for only about a minute or less each time.

i would pull the valve cover off and check for oil on the top end. with out "seeing" the motor its kinda hard to diagnos whats wrong over the internet. if you have someone closer to you that ca actually look and hear the motor thats your best bet.

You can pull the distributor and a valve cover and prime the oil pump with an electric drill and a priming tool. You will see oil flowing onto the head. Since the motor has been sitting for such along time most of it probably drained back into the pan. The ticking noise that you speak of is probably the lifters if they are hyraulic lifters. I am guessing you might be running a sbc.
