Im trying to get the 460 running in my Bronco. I broke a water pump bolt off in the block and am trying to take the timing cover off. I took the pully and balancer off but I cant get the little key off the crank to take the other piece and cover off. Anybody have any pointers or suggestions on how to get that key out so I can slide the timing cover off?

spray some pb blaster on it and pull it out w/ some pliers.

I forgot about PB. I'll give it a try.

1 you dont need to take it off
2 you can remove it with a flat head screwdriver, expect to ruin it, but they cost like 50 cents
3 tap on it with a hammer to move it in the slot cut into the crank, then you can slide the rest of it off

also if you messed it up a lil, u can file it down again.

The reason it needs to come off is because there is a balancer looking thing in between it and the timing cover. I need to slide all that off so I can get to the bolt and extract it. I tried wd40 and prying it out with a flathead screwdriver, didnt work. Guess I'll try the PB tomorrow.
