I SEE THIS ALL THE TIME ON ENGINES BUT WHAT PAINT OR PROCESS DO YO GO THROUGH TO PUT BASE CLEAR ON AN ENGINE BLOCK WITHOUT IT CHIPPING OR FLAKING OFF DUE TO THE HEAT

Your local auto paint supplier should know. Im sure it's just an additive for the paint. Good luck with it! Sorry i couldn't be more help! Oh and if they don't tell you try your local machine shop that rebuilds motors. They paint some they might know.

I work at a racing engine builder. We actually use Duplicolor heat temp engine enamel on everything that is a typical color like any ford/chevy/dodge specific colors (they got tons of other colors too). The shit lays down real nice, its cheap, and i've seen about 20 engines dynoed right in front of my eyes and the shit never burned off on any of them. If you need a specific mixed color you shouldnt have a problem with just a good base coat clearcoat. The temp of the heads and block on an engine dont really get as hot as you think just as long as its running properly. The POR-15 company also makes a really nice indestructable engine paint system so maybe check them out too. Either way before you paint blow and acetone the fuck out of the engine. Hope that helps.

Also if its bare block a nice light coat of that green etch primer works great for good top coat adhesion to the metal.

I used VHT on mine. Its pretty good once its been warmed up. Solvent resistant and all that BS. But I've heard of people just spraying primer base and clear and having no problems. The heads get a lot hotter than the block itself does.

i sprayed my block in acrylic enamal mixed to match the outside of my truck. havent had a chance to drive the truck so im not quite sure what its gonna do under the heat. however, i wouldnt recommend going two stage on it...i would think with the heat it would dull out the clear or turn it yellowish...

Clean it very well clean clean clean then apply 2 coats of epoxy primer let dry then sand with 320 then its ready to paint like normal......Once u epoxy it its there

i've heard of people just spraying like normal as well. but i hear you cant be going crazy on layers because of heat. not the fact that it will bubble off, but for the fact the motor needs some sort of cooling. same reason you don't powder coat a block.

im about to do mine, not sure if i am going to spray it, or if im going to pay someone to do it. Anyone know about how much it would cost?
