I was just pulled over by a local cop. He was just trying to get me for anything. His first words were license and registration and the asked for my inspection records. I just got it inspected 2-3 months ago. He was looking at the taillights and said that he doubts that they could be seen at 300ft but he doesn't check. I have the license plate in my back window. (is that legal) I don't know how I see these other cars riding around with it in the back window. Then he asked where were my reverse lights. I had to have them. Now this car was inspected without them and my old car that I had for years didn't hvae them but it always passed inspection. Is it a law that the license plate has to be fixed to the rear of the vehicle (outside) and do I need reverse lightsThanks .

Did he give you a ticket? The plate can be anywhere as long as it is visable from x amoutn of feet. As far as the reverse lights go it comes down to if it was equipped with them from the factory, ie old cars dont need them but yours does.

I got a verbal warning on the license plate and he told me i needed reverse lights

he said my taillights are dangerous b/c these 80 year olds can't even see stock taillights and they had to be visible from 300ft but he said he didn't think mine would be visible at 300ft. He also asked 2-3 times if i thought they were safe(he didn't)

from my understanding the plate has to be on the rear mot part of the vehicle and in the center. now they probably wont say much if its off to the side as long as its on the very back. i havent heard anything about reverse lights. i havent had revers lights on anything in like 5yrs other than my beaters and havent been hassled about them. he is pretty much right on about the distance on the taillights being able to be seen. but if he was really serious about that he probably would have given ya a ticket for it

the real reason he pulled you over was because of that DC logo on there. j/k with ya

I've been through the whole tag ordeal on one of my old trucks. It has to at least be outside of the vehicle somehow. They prefer it to be in the "stock" location.

The vehicle does not have to have reverse lights, just go to anyone that does inspections and ask. I used to have the book but i know you do not need them.

He wanted the inspection sheet because he wanted to check about the reverse lights. He could not beleive that I got it inspected with the led and no reverse lights

your license plate (by law) needs to be at the rear most part of the vehicle and lit by white lights, so if there are no lights illuminating your plate at night then you are in violation.
