ok we are planning on bagging a 4dr civic, ive got a great idea to switch the car over to a staight axle and notch and do it basically just like a truck, has anyone ever done this to a unibody car??? we are wanting to run 20s, main thing i am worried about is clearance issues. any advice or input??

also when i tub the car the tub of course will go into most of the door jam and the door its self, how can i get my door to latch because the factory latch will no longer be able to be uses????

on the latch you will just move everything in, on bagging it, you will have to build a sub frame in the rear to make it more like a truck, probally alot of usless work. it would be best to run your bags off the lower control arms, it would save you alot of work and do the same job. just be prepared to do alot of cuttin and welding

Im runnin a straight axle on my avenger. Pretty simple actually. Just cut everything out, notched the subframe, ran a couple crossmembers to strength everything up and sheetmetal it all back up.

The loss of camber might hurt your project, as the wheels may have to sit really far into the wells to clear the top of the quarter panels.
You could always build a solid axle with some camber built-in, which would help with that problem, but don't put too much in unless you want to deal with toe issues as you lift and drop!
If you're willing to do that much fabrication to your Civic, why not just cut the whole rear floor out and "body drop" it? Just cut it, raise it up, and weld it back in... then you'd still have your camber...
Of course, I haven't looked at the trunk you're dealing with, so there might be a million reasons this isn't feasible, but it looks KILLER in my head!!

I was going to do the same thing to my Accord until I decided a truck would be easier. I was going to use a rear axle from a 84-87 Civic. They are a twist beam that is built like a 2 link but provides articulation. You could use the trailing arms that are on the axle with just a little lengthening or shortening to get the axle in the correct location. Then you would just need to add a panhard and cut everything out so it lays.
But, the main reason I didn

im just worried mainly about my wheels hitting the quarters because it wont have the chamber to help clear them, i kno i can narrow the axle but i dont want it to end up looking the wheels are so far in that there about 2 touch each other, i have also been thinking about doing the whole cantilever deal but i was just thinking that i could get lower and closer to laying pinch on the notch idea.

if i were you id just bag it on the stock suspension just set it up to run 2500s it will lay floor and you wont have to figure out what to do for rear brakes

All of that is unnecessary, it will lay on factory suspension in the rear. You'll just have to modify the trailing arms a bit. Mine's on 18's and set up to lay on 20's with a 225/30 20.

I have an 04 4dr civic that has a cantilever setup in the trunk. I had to have the lower crossmember shaved down and it still sits on that. You can get an idea in my profile.
