i left mine there. or you can build new ones to the rear of the control arm.
make a new frame section from firewall back and dont cut your floor, just raise the trans tunnel

I triangulated my lowers to eliminate the strut rods.

And look in the suspension section, theres a sticky on bodydropping and channelling. It shows where to cut, and help retain stock heat and defrost.

on a mazda you just drop the cab mount "ears" and notch the crossmember for the lower radiator hose. You dont have to do anything with the strut rods.

you can get an aftermarket heater to fit behind your firewall from summit or jegs for like 150 bucks

on a mazda:

you can drop just the ears. You dont have to drop the crossmember unless you really want to. Mark where the lower rad hose is on the crossmember and notch it, like a c notch, or a square notch.

Dropping the ears is about a thousand times easier than dropping the whole thing, welding around the steering box when you drop the whole thing just sucks nuts. You can do the ears and the crossmember notch in about an hour. You also have to drop the bumper mounts, but luckily they are almost 3 inches tall, so whack em off and make em almost flat.

You can keep heat and ac on a rocker laying traditional bd, you can cut low behind the pedals and then go up over the trans. Some people "step" their bodydrop on top of the trans to keep the air distribution box stock, but I think that makes it harder later if you ever need the trans out. You can take the air distribution part of the heater vent off the distribution box and everything still fits.
