Beware of bad BYC control arms!

The story is that this customer was driving (bagged and bodydropped second gen S-10) down the road and his truck suddenly jerked into on coming traffic, nobody got hurt. After he got it under control and off the road he discovered that the drivers side ball joint plate had broken. He brought the drivers side control arm to me and wanted me to fix it, ball joint plate was all bent up and broken though 2 of the ball joint bolts. No big deal to fix, so I get some measurements and build up a jig to keep all my locations. So I start to cut it apart and notice that it just a piece of 3/16" plate butt welded in between the tubes! I call the guy up and ask him who made these sweet arms and he says "their BYC arms". I end up making a new ball joint plate out of 1/4" plate and entend it into the tubing app. 1 1/2" in each tube. Well then I ask him to bring me the other because its probably bad too, sure enough it is all bent up and the welds are starting to crack on it. I put the second arm on the jig and the ball joint location it not even remotely close to where it should be. The back tube from the bushing to the ball joint is also about 1/2" to short so it won't reach the front of the ball joint plate like the other arm. I seen a different post on here where someone made reference to "BYC self forming control arms" and these look identical to those arms before I fixed them. I took pictures of before and after but have not loaded them on the computer yet. But if you have BYC control arms for an S-10 check them out and make sure that they are not bending around or cracking, I would hate to see anyone get hurt or worse.....

Agreed. 2001 was the last year i think he sent out parts But took money till 2006

i only use jb weld if you are willing to pay the extra MONEY.

I have a set of their control arms and i has to use over an inch of alignment spacers on the uppers to get my camber straight. Do you have any pics or explaination of how you made the jig. I have been wanting to re-make my uppers to eliminate the spacers and strengthen the balljoint plate.

I posted this problem months ago in reference to the wrong ball joints binding and forcing the plate to bend.that is the problem and will allways be the problem.My complaint with byc arms is they look ugly.My arms look better and are prebuilt in stock also I don't think anyone could break them.

Those are nice looking arms grip!!!!! Just making for s10 or other rides as well???
