im sure there is some information here on swapping a sbf on yota rails but i wasnt able to find anything. im gonna be building a custom frame with a yota clip at the front and a 302 under the hood so any help that i can get from the yota guys would be great

there is a Universal cross bar from Summit with the SBF mounts built in and it just goes from rail to rail, thats what I'm using on my Mazda with a 302 right now.
Trans Dapt #4849 is the part number

all pro offroad.. look them up. they've got kits for swappin toyotas to v8s also off road unlimited. i think they've got some stuff too. also downey offroad. all of those are 4wd sites butthey are the ones that are frequently doin V8 swaps in toyotas. i have even seen a few small block chebby motors in the toyotas and only 1 ford 302. the hard part aboutthe 302 is the blocks length. the one i saw the guy had to ditch his air conditionin and put his radiator outside the radiator support cause the belt driven fan stuck out too far and would have hit the radiator. IF you build your own mounts you could prolly move the 302 far enough back in the engine bay to run an aluminum radiator with a slim electric fan. since the distributor is on the front of a 302 instead of the rear of the motor like a chevy, the motor can go almost right up next to the firewall. but you'd have to move the tranny back and all that crap.. i'm sure there are people that have put in 302's into toyotas but its not nearly as easy as a chevy motor. those are done every day. they sell bellhousing adaptors and motor mounts and WA-LA.. a typical small block chevy install into a toyota is only a few hours. i'm sure the 302 is gonna be a good bit harder. good luck

ok well im gonna be building my own mounts (well the shop doing the work is) and im worried about a/c or anything like that. only thing thats gonna be on the motor is alt. water pump and engine driven compressor. and if i got to move the firewall back some thats not a problem either with all the other cutting and fab work that has to be done

is it in a toyota pickup? or are you building a custom frame with a yota clip for that volve in your picture?

I built my own mounts and used ford pickup mounts to bolt to the block. Those mounts just have one stud. Then some Two inch tubing Cut at 45' Is what they bolt to. Look at my ranger profile to see if that helps any.

I'm not sure where adam is getting his info from, 'cause the 5.0 (302) Ford motor is one of the smallest American V8's out there. They are smaller and lighter than the SBC by all measurements. I can't figure out why the SBC gets so much play. If I built a V8 mini, it would get a 5.0 with no questions. Build your own mounts, use a C4 or AOD trans and all will be fine.

I have to agree with Max on this. The sbf is narrower than the sbc which makes it perfect for the import trucks smaller frame. Just because its smaller doesn't mean its not powerful. The sbc has become the "standard" in engine swap because of the parts being cheap. Cheap they may be, you get what you pay for. Plus with the sbf it has the distributor in the front, no hacking of the firewall.

As for myself I think the whole v8 swap is played out especially the sbc thing. Later this year I am swapping in a 3.8 supercharged v6 from my old Tbird.

anyhow, heres a link that you might find useful

back in the day chevys were cheaper to build than fords. that why the chevy became to be so popular. than the 5.0 mustangs came along and now they are cheap as chevys to build.
and its easy ot get an honest 300hp out of a 5.0 ford for REALLY cheap
