i was just driving my s10(4.3 v6) that i recently purchased from a friend... well the battery died on t, i got it jumped and it started right up... i drove it for about 5minutes and the truck just shut off... so i pulled over and tried jumping it again but i won't kick over... i tried jumping it off the alternator too, thinking my alternator might be fried, but no luck either... i ended up pushing it into a parking lot after trying to get it running for 30min... so it's parked there over night which im not very excited about, and have no idea whats wrong with it and why it wont start... what should i do??? what can i try to get it to kick over??? im pissed and confused and need any help i can get.... thanks...

take the alternator off and get it tested dont mean to sound like a ass but its kinda had to tell someone what it could be when you cant be hands on :-\ but it possibly could be the alternator

ive had many S10s and ive had 3 diff ones do this same thing to me. Its the alternator everytime. Have you noticed it very gradually starting up more sluggish everytime? Before it dies on you do the headlights/dashlights start dimming and fading on you?

its either an altenator or battery. Get the altenator checked. and give the battery a good full charge and check to see what the voltage is. A fully charged battery is about 12.6 volts

i understand jeremy... i've tried jumping it from both the battery and alternator... but if it was the alternator, and i tried jumpin it from that, wouldn't hookin up the jumper cables to the alternator give3 it enough juice to start up?? it turns and makes the whiney noise and trys hard to kick over but no luck...

if the truck died after it was started, it would be the alternator I think. Hook a DVOM up to it.

Take a volt meter out there to your truck and test the battery. You will probably need over 11 volts to start it but looking for a little over 13 volts for a fully charged one. Have someone jump it and let the cables sit on it for about 5 min. before trying to start it. unhook the cables and check the voltage of the battery. Hook the cables back up and try to start it. If it starts, un-hook the cables and check the battery voltage again while the truck is running and see if it is building a charge. If the voltage is low and does not change while running, I would say start with the alternator. Take it and get it tested and go from there.

if the alt and battery both check out...check the fusable link, had one of those burn half way through and experienced some of the same problems.
