How much does the car audio installer make? I have been thinking about getting into it for a while besides just doing it for a hobby. Just dont know how much money i would make.

not enough for a normal installer. gotta be good with glass and every other upcoming material in the install world. its hard to make good money. I mean, its not 8 bucks an hour, but its not 30 either. It's enough to pay the bills, and a little fun, but it's not amazing pay until you do the big boys rides.

i work for a company that does mobile installations. I am the estimator in the main office but our installers have company vehicles and company credit cards i dont know their pay though... Are you in California?

Most get paid comission unless you work at circuit or best buy. Most of those places pay hourly. If you think your fast enough you could make decent money at a busy shop. Doing the big jobs aren't always better. Sometimes you make less doing them because of the time they take.

they get paid shit, if you want to struggle through life go ahead. but its not worth it. commission or not. its not worth it.

Yeah, most get payed commission. Some weeks you'll have money out the ass whereas others you will be struggling to makes ends meet. It becomes VERY stressful when it becomes a full-time job compared to a hobby/extra money on weekends.

i make pretty damn good compared to most shops i've worked for. you have to find a reputable shop in an area that produces alot of business. i worked in orlando and was making 400 a week. here in gainesville i make 5-600 dollars, and i always said you couldnt make money here. experience is a huge factor also. if your just starting out(installing 1 year or less) you wont make money. people need to get over the "i need it now" mentality. stick it out with a good company and you can make good money. also loyalty can make or break a good paying stereo job. if your walking customers out the back and installing on the side, you wont get the respect you want or keep the job long. long money is better than short money!!

i started out at a small shop in missouri didn't get the greatest of pay but the experience was worth it. i then went to Ultimate Electronics was commission based and made awsome money same with circuit city made good money they were hourly but it is gravy work radio's and amp installs all day long. i got tired of doing "normal" installs so now i am at another small shop doing custom work it all on how much experience you have and how efficient you are. the things with car audio shops you have to know how to do remote starts and know how to do them right with out come backs because that is a money maker for shops along with mobile video. my sughestion start out and learn as much as you can nothing beats hands on experiance it will be rough for a bit as far as pay but it will get better and never be afraid to ask questions to other installers it always cheaper to ask or make a phone call than screw up a new car

that's what I started with... back in the day Circuit City used to pay commision and hourly and i worked my way up all the way to general manager... but like Pig said, it got boring, but i will never regret giving it a go
