im am getting a set of 18 inch chrome factory escalade rims from i guy i work with, they ar 18 x 8, the info i got was they have a 31mm offset, they have a J after the 8 on the width, what does that mean, i read thru the previous posts and found one that had different inches and mm offsets per rim widths, didnt fully understand, also i have a machine shop that can enlarge the center hole, what size?? and can i use my lugnuts or do i have to go with something else, they look bigger on the eski's, i know the 16 will tuck, but will 18's tuck, my truck is setup to lay frame on 18's currently running 16's optimus with 205/40-16, what would be a good size to run on the 18's, the tire store told me a 225/40-18, i have 4x4 bed and fenders also...think i got all my questions........can anyone give me some enlightenment

not sure what the wheel you are talkin about looks like but i know the lowest profile for 18x8 is 215/35-18, kinda stretched

they will barely fit with your 4x4 fenders. +31 offset on an 8 inch wide wheel will not tuck with 2wd fenders.

J8 means they are 8 inches wide.

Offest needed changes with the width because offset is measured from the centerline of the wheel, and width is added to each side of the centerline. So for example a +34 offset 7 inch wide wheel will tuck with 2wd sheetmetal, a +34 offset 8 inch wide wheel will not tuck with 2wd sheetmetal. The explaination is because there will be 2.6" of wheel for the frontspace (measured from the mounting surface outward to the lip of the rim)of a 7 inch wide wheel with +34 offset, but that same offset on an 8 will have 3.2" off wheel for the frontspace.

ok russ, what do you mean they will barely fit, lol... in other words they will fit right, am i gonna have to mod the inner fender lip at all, currently my 16 x 8 have a backspacing of 5.25" and the 18's have a backspacing of 5.75, so saying the 16 tuck the 18 is giving me a 1/2 in more correct

no you have it, they will fit with a 1/2 inch more clearance than your 16x8. But dont put on drop spindles..... My 17" escalades barely tucked after drop spindles.

what kind of lug nuts do you have to use, or can you use the stock ones, did you have to do anything with the rear fender lip

use buldge style acorn nuts

Russ:

What specs should i tell the shop to make my 17 eskies fit my 87 B2200?
droppedmitsu   +1y
they just need to have the centers bored out to 4"
