I am going to be pulling my engine out soon in i figure wile it is out i should clean it up and paint it. Whats the best paint to use on the engine block and other parts of the engine.

Are you wanting to base and clear it or use a spray can?

Base and clear I would look into PPG
Spray Can I would go with Dupli Color Ceramic Engine Paint

i used the engine enamel to paint my engine and i havent had any problems out of it.. hasnt cracked off or anything, but keep in mind it depends how clean you get the engine..

i had my engine dipped at a machine shop, and then i wire brushed it.. i think machine shops will only charge you like 20 or 30 bucks to clean the engine for you

I've seen a few people get by just fine w/ normal automotive paint on the block... these are cars that arent' daily driven, but surprised me that they seem to be holding up just fine... makes it simpler to match the engine to the car fo sho!

The Duplic Color is easy to apply and easy to touch up. Now your not gonna win best of show engine with it but I think it looks pretty clean also. Just depends how much time you want to take on it and how detailed. Remember to clean it good and also to put on a good coat of primer

I painted mine with regular dupont paint that we painted my suburban with. And it was driven mostly everyday..even trips 800 miles or more. But the block was REALLY clean...and primed with a self etching primer.

ok so regular paint works fine just make sure its really clean and to prime it first. Whats the best primer to use if i use dupont i think im going to be using duponts hot hues for my base.So regular paint holds up to the heat.

Use a self etching primer

Yes regular Automotive base and clear will work fine and hold up to heat

You should look into Endura. I think they have an additive that you can add to any single stage paint and the stuff is ROCK HARD. It holds up like powder coat. My friend sprayed the exhaust on his bike and car and after 4 years, its still looking brand new.

Duplicolor Engine paint is the best and is super easy to use and cheap to boot. Plus it lays out as if it were sprayed from a gun. When i was at the machine shop thats pretty much all we used and we built high end engines (20-100k range) and we never had any prbolems. Make sure to clean the block with acetone. Put some acetone in a mixing cup and brush it on really good with a paint brush, blow dry it as you go around the block. Clean is the key word for getting the paint to stick to an engine so be super thorough. Duplicolor green etch primer works great to help out with adhesion also. Just my two cents good luck.
