i'm thinking about pickin up a 95 c1500 pickup truck w/ a 350 in it and was wondering if it would be large enough to pull my ranger with on a trailer. would i need to swap out a bigger axle. or should i just keep looking till i find a diesel f250?

he only wants 400 bucks for the truck and it needs a windshield and a water pump so it sounds like a decent deal to me.

any input is appreciated

Do it, you do not need to tow a house just a Ranger.

It would work just fine to tow your ranger. But i wonder what kind of truck it is for $400. Yeah it might be a good deal but is it realiable. Sure would suck to be broke down on the side of the road on a way to a show

i would add an aux trans cooler if you do

yea, the rear of the frame is kinda torn up a little bit cause some 'ol redneck tried to pull a house down or something.

just need something to get me through, probably won't venture much more than 150 miles from home with it, i just can't pull anything with my other ranger or my tbird.

the detroit diesel powered civic isn't quite ready to tow with yet either.

Sounds like you should be fine then

around here a $400 truck is in pretty bad shape. But its up to you. Personnally, With all the towing Ive done Ill never tow with anything other than a 3/4 ton or bigger. But in PA its all hills and shit so its really hard on the tow pig. Just my thoughts

from what i hear the biggest problem with towing a vehicle behind a 1/2ton truck is the brakes.

do the rear brakes take on any more or the braking responsibilities when towing? is there a cheap swap to put larger brakes on one of these trucks?

i know all the heavy trucks we have at work will lock up the rear brakes before the fronts and the rears drums are about twice as big as the front drums.

also, you would be suprised what you can get around here for 400 bucks. all of the 'ol rednecks just stack up pickup trucks and suburbans and shit and then realize they don't have room behind the shed for 6 or 7 vehicles that they never plan on doing anything with.

You can always get electric brakes on the trailor youre towing. Thats what we have on our trailors for towing 4wheelers and different stuff. They work out great and save tons on the truck. There are multiple actuators for the trailor brakes dependin on the money you want to spend. As for towing a ranger you should be good to go.
