Need some help! i am about to try to section my bumper i am trying to figure out what thickness of steel people use for the new section and what type of mud should i use for the body work on it? thanks

if you are really going section it first i would consider a few things: are you going to get it re chromed or painted? and there is one type of filler called all-metal but its about twice the price of regular filler. and if you are just going to narrow the bumper i would cut it on the flat areas not any of the corners. and when you weld it back DONT suddenly cool it with a wet rag or cool water that will make it shrink and more likely turn it to trash. good luck i was plannin on doin that with my bumper but i've got another idea. as for what thickness just use the pieces that you removed and use them as backings that way they'll be matching thickness already.

i am going to paint it. when my truck is layed out the bumper is a few inchs of the ground and i want it to lay out. so will evercoat body filler do the trick then for the mud?

you should use the ram bumper, would be cool.

so your actually not sectioning it..your making it taller if i read that right..i would use the same thickness as the bumper is already..and you dont have to worry about it warping as bad as you do sheetmetal.....from looking at your pictures it looks like that bumper is gonna have to be pretty tall to lay evenly with the rockers...might look kinda funny IMO

yeah i have an older dodge bumper that i am putting on it and have to section and extend it. never messed with the bumper before that is why i am just trying to make sure regular mud will hold up to the elements.

you think it would look right on it? never really thought about it

the top part is steel and it could be cut down, instead of using the plastic valnce just remake the bottom and sides to fit your truck.

14/16 gauge should be around the right thickness.

Cool Truck...

Did u consider dropping that stock bumper down way lower and sectioning the center out of a Ol' Boxy Ram Grill.I Think its similar in style to yours!

I could be way off, but in my head it looks Fn Sic!!! lol
