im going to strip all the primer and paint off my car to bare metal. i know i need to shoot epoxy primer first then do body work but after i do the body work do i need to shoot epoxy again or can i shoot 2k primer?

after the bodywork, u can shoot 2k

you can shoot either. and if you have a good amount of epoxy left, you can reduce it as if its a sealer. epoxy can be a top coat just like the 2k or any other type.

how many coats of epoxy do i need to put over the bare metal and after i do the body work do i have to sand the whole panel before i shoot the 2k primer

It depends some epoxy are non sanding some are not. Check with the maker and what there specefications are. as far as coats go I usualy put 2 but you can achieve one coat coverage for the simple fact your not trying to build your just covering...

you need to shoot self etching primer over the metal before you apply any other primer....then apply an epoxy or catalyst primer...then block and do bodywork as needed..

i thought epoxy was for spraying over bare metal

wrong. most epoxy's are DTM (direct to metal) primers. Of course, when buying, make sure it is, but I know the KD2000 house of colors sells is DTM. AS well as the stuff KEEF uses, I forget what product that is though. Im sure if you ask, he will tell.

Again, just make sure it is a DTM epoxy, all the ones I saw when searching were. I would use the HOK stuff if you have the cash.
