What's different, what needs to be changed? My truck just threw a rod and the thrust bearings fell out of the block and let the crankshaft grind against the block. It's unrepairable. I need to get it running quick...for about 3 months, I need to get to school. I found the 1985 motor in a paper for $100 and the guy says it was running before it was pulled. Best week ever!

wow, where to start.
id call LC engineering in cali, they are yota motor experts, for some reason i think you cant do this "swap" at all
but call them, and ask them

A 22RE is a 22RE - end of story.

There may be differences in plugs, ECU, etc. - but as long as you have all your stock accessories - you should be able to do this pretty easily. Make sure to change all fluids, etc. before you crank over the donor engine. (Duh)

About the only difference would be - if you were converting to a 22RTE (turbo) and even then it can be done if you have the complete harness, ECU, intake, etc.

I am 85% sure that they did not out the 22RE in until like 88 so you might want to check i think that it is going to be a 22R which i do not think would be an easy swap

22RE came out in LAte 84 and final in 85. and yes you can you drop a 85 motor into a 94. i dropped one in from a 86 into a 92.

I figured the blocks were the same. I know the manifold is different from 93-95 or 92-95, they have "pear shaped" exhuast ports, but all of my other stuff is good, so I'll just change out the block. I'm gonna get it, if he still has it.

only thing is, somewhere in the 80s they swapped block design some. they went from a tall block short head to a short block tall head. might wanna figure out if the older engine is the same deck height style. it think it was 86 when they swapped. reuse the old head though, and you should be fine. all the intake and exhause stuff should bolt on to either one, just a matter of heights

all 22r and 22re are interchangeable, i have personally done it. if you go from carb to efi you need to remove the offset fuel pump pulley thingy on the front of the camshaft, and use a block off plate. same goes for efi just in reverse. just use the intake, exhaust, and all accesories from the car your installing the engine in.
