What's up guy, I haven't been on in a while. Well, I just bought a really nice 93' Z28 LT1 automatic camaro for a great price. The only problem I'm having is it has a little flutter during idle. Sometimes enough so that when I put it in gear the car dies. It has new platinum plugs, MSD 8.5mm wires, distributor, air filter, and J.E.T. chip. The guy I bought it from had everything done which was pretty costy on his part. After getting fed up with the flutter he sold it to me for cheap. Anyway, I'm not sure what it could be. It's only doing it during idle. After about 2,000 RPM you don't even notice it. Normal driving is perfect and the car runs awesome. Its just during idle. I think it might have something to do with a vacuum line. My dad thinks it might be out of time but I don't know how to check because its all computerized. I had a buddy try to hook up his scanner to it and for some reason it wouldnt read the cars ECU. So we replaced the JET chip with the stock chip that came in the car and still no luck. Its running the same way. I took it to a local dealer and they hooked it to their diagnostics machine and he said it might be the distributor. He told me that the water pump could have leaked into the distributor and ruined it and that it would cost me $1026.00 to fix. Now I understand that this is a common problem, but the car just had a new water pump and distributor installed at 114,000 miles. It currently has 116,000 miles. I would think that if the distributor was screwed up than the car would be running rough regardless of the RPM. After about 2,000 the car is fine. I am not trying to say the guy that scanned it is not good at what he does it just doesnt seem to be that big of a problem to me. Here is a quick video I made of the tach with the car running. Keep in mind that I am not giving it gas at any time during the video except for the first big Rev. Watch how much the RPM's change during idle. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I really don't want to pay someone $1,000 to fix something that they think "might" be the problem.

Hard to say without knowing some more info. Have you checked fuel pressure? When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? Mass air sensors for the older LT1's were a common problem too. It could be some number of things.

i drive a camaro. Check on Camaroz28.com Just search on their forums for the problem. If you don't find anything, then just post it up. They'll respond within a few hours. They've always helped me when I needed it.

93-94 had unsealed opti's.. the littlest water they go out... if that is the prob, only use ac delco brand.. the cheaper ones nvr last.

might be throttle position sensor.when you find it just unplug it if the flutter stops than it is the sensor.when you unplug the sensor it goes into limp mode to protect the engine

If you have a oil charged air filter in that car I'd definitely clean the mass air flow sensor. Oil gets on it from geting sucked off the air filter and then dirt sticks to it causing the sensor to send shitty info to the computer. Also if that car is equipped with an IAC sensor (idle air control) that can also be the culprit. I would definitely check fuel pressure at idle and while driving and putting a 9 dollar fuel filter on it can never hurt. If all else fails start checking for vacuum leaks. Make sure all regular maintenance items such as throttle body cleaning, fuel filter, clean oil and filter, pcv valve, plugs and wires, injector flush, etc, etc... have been done. If the car isnt up to at least good factory condition it isnt gonna run right no matter how much the last guy did. I would clean the mass air flow sensor and throttle body as a start if it hasnt been done already. Hope that helps.
