want to put a small block in my 85 toy. do i need to do anything with the driveline and rearend? what tranny should i use?

Diveline will deffinately need mods. The rear end it depends on how hard you are going to drive it. Tranny depends on how much hp. c4 or c6.

There is lots involved. Pick your motor and tranny(Chevy, Ford, Dodge, etc.), EFI or carb (EFI involves computer, harnesses, etc.), custom length drive shaft most likely, beefier rearend, motor mounts and tranny mount, 4-link system out back (if you want to actually transfer power to the ground), headers and exhaust that are bigger and clear everything, wider rear tires to hook up (which involves narrowed rearend, etc to fit them under the sheetmetal), beefier brakes to stop, and probably beefing up the frame to eliminate some twist.

might be able to use one of them 1 ton toyota rear ends, or possibly a 9 inch out of a later ranger. might be about the right width and probably stronger. or moser might be able to make stronger axle shafts. the torque is the thing that will break stuff, so if you plan on launchin or shifting hard, make sure the rear end, driveline, and tranny are able to take it. as well as that dinky little frame it came with.
