Having trouble with my system.

i have two 12 l5s in my explorer and im not sure what is wrong but it burnt up my crunch 1200 watt amp that it has been working fine on for 3 months and now its in a new car and it fryed the inside of that amp and for some reason the wire fried on the 1000 watt amp i had hooked up and caught the wires on fire what could it be?

hmm....what size wire are you running? if it fried the amp, it may of been clipping. it could be a combination of that and pulling too much current for the gauge wire you are running

How many channels is ur amp and what ohms r ur subs

i have a 2 channel 1200 watt crunch amp and the subs are ran at 4 ohms and the wire is like 4 gauge

the inside of the amp shows burn marks and a metal piece busted and i hooked up a 2 channel 1000 watt to it and the remote wire whitch i have on a toggle switch pretty much melted all the way to the switch on both sides.

the remote wire shouldnt of burnt, all it does is carry a 12v to the amp to turn it on, the 4ga wire you have ran does the actual power supply. I would run a new remote wire, make sure its not grounded out and has a solid 12v source.

as for the amp.. what is the specs on the amp? metal pieces broken and stuff sounds like a power surge and there wasnt the right fuse in line to save the amp and it popped. Do you have any inline fuses on the 4ga power? Check your 4ga ground wire from the amp and make sure it is completely solid.

i dont know what an inline fuse is but i have a fuse block on the power wire by the battery and it worked fine in my grand prix but i had 2 100 amp fuses before it got to the amp could it not be grounded right?

inline fuse is a holder that puts a fuse inline of your power wire to protect your amp.

the line that powers your amp, what size fuse is on it? Is it one of the 100amp fuses you're talking about?

Usually I run 60 or 80amp fuses in 1000 or more watt systems. Most wiring kits for 1000 watt amps come with either a 60 or 80. I am going to say you need to drop down to one of those. I would also say you got a power spike for some reason and your fuse was too big and it blew the amp before the fuse.

check your ground to see if its tight.. if it is.. then put a smaller fuse on it and redo that remote wire. if it blows the fuse, something is wired wrong.

why is your remote on a toggle and not coming from the remote wire in the deck? or a keyed 12v power source?

well when i first wired up the cd the remote didnt work right so i had to toggle switch but i think the problem might be the ground but the problem is that i need a better fuse u think

well it sounds like your remote wire had a short somwhere just run a new remote wire and as long as you have 4 awg wire you should be ik as long as it is not ran though your door jam or anything you don't want to crimp that wire any where b/c it is like kinking a garden hose it will restrict the flow of power to the amp and an amp on low voltage is just as bad as anything else. the fuse up front is to protect the run of wire the fuses in the amp are what protect the amp now i am not saying that the fuse under the hood will not fry an amp if it is wrong. the only other thing is make sure it is grounded properly the best way is just sand down some metal in the trunk and bolt or use self tappers to ground it
