Hooking up an alpine deck to my c280...i got a 86 and up VW harness to connect the facotry to the deck, but all i can get is power to the deck... no one around portland wants to help out without a little pay first... so any information would be awesome.. im sure im going to have to bypass the factory amp... but how exactally would i go about doing this?

You need to get out a volt meter or a test light and start looking for 12V. To be honest if you dont know what you are doing. It is pretty cheap to pay somone that knows what they are doing, nothing gets burnt that way.

least complicated solution would be to just run new wire from the decks speaker outputs directly to the speaker. Remember, i said the least complicated, not necessarily the easiest. That way you run the least chance of messing something up doing it yourself.

MMk, what would the complicated way be to do it? Does anyone know where the stock benz amp is located so i can just bypass the amp?

Hook up the remote turn on and you should be fine. Also sometimes the constant and ignition need to be switched because they are the opposite.

just run all new wires from the back of the deck to the speakers....

what year is your mercedes? the amps are usually in the trunk behind the driver side panel on the wheel well. the easiest way to bypass the amp is to write down the speaker wire colors from the car side of the harness corresponding with the standard speaker wires on the adapter harness you bought. those colors will allow you to identify the input side of the factory amp. you then have to write down the actual speaker wire colors at the speakers in your vehicle and those will be on the output side of the amp. to bypass the amp cut the input speaker wires matching what is behind the deck and connecting them to the speaker wires coming out of the factory amp using the speaker wire colors at the speakers. that will directly connect the deck to the speakers. this is actually easier than running the wires to the speakers, if you've worked on any mercedes you know its a bitch running anything through them. as far as polarity you can 'pop' the speakers with a cordless drill battery and when the speaker pops out that is the correct polarity( helps if the battery is marked (+) and (-)) write down which color wire is on the neg and pos. terminal of the battery. its time consuming but its how i've always done them and never had a problem. this works with any amp bypass for most vehicles. some newer vehicles have 6,8,13 speakers. with that many speakers you have to measure the impedance and wire accordingly. if you have 4 fullrange and a pair of tweets you can get away with running them straight off the deck, anymore you do have to series and parrallel the speakers to get the 4 ohm load most decks require. sorry so long just want to make sure i explain it thoroughly enough.
