i was driving home last night and it seems that something is slipping, either the clutch or tranny. Are our trannies banded or do they use gears mostly. this is a 2200 5-speed

correct there are no bands in a 5 speed there is a set up of planetary gears

A planetary gear set uses a sun gear in the center with planetary gears which move around it. Automatic transmissions use planetary gear drives, bands, and clutch packs.

The 5 speeds are just your normal synchronized gear box. If you have slippage it must be comming from the clutch. Make sure the freeplay in your clutch pedal is adjusted right. There is an adustable rod that the clutch pedal pushes into the clutch master cylinder, if it is adjusted too long your clutch will never completly disengauge. If it is adjusted correctly you should have about .010"-.030" or so of free play in the pedal before it hits the rod.

If your clutch is actually slipping and it is not the free play in the pedal causing it this would be the first time I've heard of it happening in a B2200.
