this may be a stupid question but howcome when i open my doors and then lock them to get out and i close them they unlock themselves. both sides do it.

most minis do that, at least all the ones that ive had, just try holding the handle when you shut it

they are supposed to do that

Umm this might be a stupid question too, but why would you lock a shaved door?? Thats kinda pointless isnt it?? As for the original question most imports including mazdas are like that you have to lift the handle while you close the door otherwise it unlocks itself.

my doors arent shaved, i was just wondering how i could lock my doors and shut the doors without them unlocking themselves.. but ill try holding the handle up and closing them though i dont think my gf will be able to figure that one out.

thanks

yea you simply hold the handle up and let go once its closed, it happens on all the older minis, i know my buddy's 89, my old 86 and my 91 all do it although i had a 93 and a 90 and those 2 didn't do it but some of them do and thats all thats wrong with it

is there anything i can change to make it lock normally
low_blazer   +1y
that is normal for a mazda

With the cars I've dealt with you just hold the inner door handle open and push the lock down, then you could close it normally. Does that work on the Mazdas? I've never actually locked mine and it's at my buddy's house right now so I can't check for myself.
